Incredibly Illuminated

Jonathan Safran Foer is the reason I am reading books again. Jonathan Safran Foer has the balls of a genetically mutated, Spielberg generated Tyrannosauruses Rex.
The American literally literates his thoughts in real time.
When I picked up "Incredibly Loud" I thought - this is incredible.
Not that there weren't parts that I could live without. But the general flowing of his writing , the chronological slaughter he performs (Did anyone say Tarantino?)
and his reconstruction of the written word, all got me anything but well-deserved Z's.

Blogs burn. Words fly away.

Have you ever been too tired to sleep? I had that last night.
Coming home from yet another endless day at the office, I just had to mess with the computer a little more. Eat a little. Zap and then eat some more. Anything but sleep.

Talk about miss using your adrenalin.

Anyway, before I knew it, it was gone. My sleep. So I rolled in bed for hours and thought of the world's best blog entry. It was damn good. Had it all. Life's secret answers. How to put an end to poverty and war. Truths about love, friendship and self prospering. Oh yes, and the cure for cancer.

It all just flowed. Sentences chased one another. Ideas popped in and out - I was on fire. Yes, it was the kind of stuff that would make Johnathan Safran Foer blush and stutter. A triumph of the mind. A blizzard of genius. Oh well I got carried away, but it was a fest. Stream of consciousness style. Trust me.

Sorry, did I say stream? I meant STEAM of consciousness. God was it humid! My face became one with the pillow and my fan, that had just awakened from it's winter sleep and dust harvest, spewed it's guts all over my face.

But I wasn't discouraged. I smeared the dust by rubbing against the pillow and continued to vision my ultimate creation. The words kept on lining in beautifully. Everything fell in place, my ideas and grammar melded together with a pinch of surrealism and a dash of my own made-up vocabulary. Swiftly escaping spelling mistakes (pretty impressive considering the lack of in-brain spell checker), I glided on thin air between sleep and wakefulness.

I have been up ever since. Trying to put it to the test. To regenerate the stream that had seemed so worthwhile. To open up and be free and let it run down from my non-editing-spell-checker-lacking-mind to my hands and from there to the keyboard, the screen and finally your criticizing eyes.

Unfortunately - the end result is not even close.

May blogs burn and words fly away.

Mike's Bike

I love my bicycle. They are not expensive or shiny. Not made from special aluminum alloy, or weigh like a shoe. Sometimes they make a "clank" sound when I shift gears. But I still love them.
I have never greased them, cleaned them or changed their tires. Not once have I tuned the headset, adjusted the breaks or replaced the cassette. I can't even tell my top tubes from my down tubes, or what in god's name is the front derailleur !?

I love my bicycle. It's the kind of love you get, that isn't equal to the love you give. I love this kind of love.

A first step in blogging

After twiddling with Twitter for a while I decided 140 chars is nice but I could go for a little more.
